If you’re thinking about making some changes around the house this spring, you don’t necessarily have to do a major renovation. You can choose the scale of your project to suit your needs, and there are little things you can do to make a big impact. The kitchen is the most used room in the house, so a few simple kitchen upgrades can go a long way in making day-to-day life more enjoyable.
Here are some minor kitchen upgrades you can implement this spring to make a transformation without undergoing a major renovation.
Assuming you already have existing pendant lights, replacing pendant lights is a quick upgrade that makes a big impact. Don’t have pendant lights currently but like the look of them? Ask a local electrician to see if your kitchen is pre-wired for pendant lights. If not, they can also help you plan a quick kitchen update by adding in the wiring to make pendants a helpful addition to your task lighting.
If you have an island or kitchen dining area, these areas will be the focal points of the kitchen, and how they are lit is going to be a major factor in the look and feel of the room.
And it’s perfectly fine if the finish on the pendants doesn’t match your appliances, sink or faucet. Mixing metals is perfectly fine, contrary to popular belief. See our Expert Advice post on mixing metals here for more information.
The kitchen faucet is one of the easiest kitchen upgrades you can make. In most cases it can take less than an hour to install, as long at the hole configuration is the same.
Kitchen faucets come in several different varieties. A deck-mount faucet is most common and mounts to your countertop on top of the sink edge. A wall-mount faucet is mounted directly to the wall and will hand overtop of the sink.
If you have a deck-mount faucet with a single handle, then any one-hole configuration faucet should fit. If you have separate hot and cold taps, you’ll need a faucet with a three-hole configuration to make swapping them out simple and easy.
With hundreds of options for each hole configuration, selection won’t be a problem.
It’s not always the first kitchen upgrade that people might think of, but soap dispensers mounted to your countertop or sink can be a simple change that carries some cool benefits.
How many times have you knocked over a hand soap bottle in the sink, or had your countertop cluttered while trying to make a complicated meal?
A mounted soap dispenser eliminates that frustration completely with a convenient stationary dispenser.
The added benefit is a cleaner, more sophisticated look to the kitchen in addition to functionality.
Since they don’t require any plumbing, soap dispensers are a simple kitchen upgrade that any handyman can do relatively easily.
If you have the time, a kitchen sink can transform a kitchen entirely. The kitchen sink is the workhorse of the kitchen, but it doesn’t have to be just a functional space. You’ll want something both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Today, there are many options besides the standard stainless steel that make the sink an element of style.
For example, the BLANCO IKON series is made from a granite composite and comes in seven different colours for unique customization.
