Creating a cozy home with mid century ranch style
This home was built in the early 1970s, and had most of the original finishes when my clients purchased it in 2016. Our goal was to stay true to the mid century ranch style bungalow, and create a warm and cozy home with high style for this young family of 4.
We started with gutting the whole space and opening up the doorways on either side of the kitchen to give the main floor better flow between the sunken living room, dining room, foyer and kitchen. New white oak hardwood floors create a light textural base for the stunning custom black cabinets. We added shine with nickel hardware on the cabinets, which we tied into the floating white oak shelf brackets on either side of the stove. A classic subway tile in a reimagined shape and application made a huge impact spanning from the countertops to the ceiling and all around the new black patio door. Concrete pendant lights and a stunning quartz countertop give the kitchen a show stopping touch.
We kept the same color palette and brought it into the master bathroom. Because the footprint was so small, it allowed us to use luxurious finishes without blowing up the budget. A custom white oak vanity with black hardware give much needed storage, and gold fixtures really up the wow factor. Marble mosaic floors in a soft white and grey colorway paired perfectly with the white hand-made look tiles in the shower. A custom black shelving unit over the toilet added even more storage, and a unique touch!
